DIY Guy: Beard Oil & Beard Balm
It is a common misconception that essential oils are only for women, but men can use them, too! More men are incorporating essential oils into their daily routines to receive the benefits they have to offer. Check out the recipes below to see how we incorporate a few of our versatile Paradise Springs Essential Oils into a hydrating beard oil and a sculpting beard balm.
Essential Oils needed for these recipes:
Paradise Springs DIY Beard Oil
Beard oil is a mixture of hydrating oils meant to help soothe skin and condition facial hair. This DIY beard oil is easy-to-make and lends an herby, woodsy aroma to the beard while conditioning and addressing problems such as dandruff and skin irritation.
What You’ll Need:
- 2 oz Paradise Springs Jojoba Oil
- 8 drops Paradise Springs Lavender Oil
- 5 drops Paradise Springs Tea Tree Oil
- 3 drops Paradise Springs Rosemary Oil
To Make: Pour all essential oils into a clean bottle (we prefer dark amber bottles to protect the mixture from sunlight). Store at room temperature in a cool, dark place.
To Use: Add a few drops of beard oil daily as part of your morning routine (do not rinse) to hydrate beard.
Paradise Springs DIY Beard Balm
Beard balms are styling and shaping aids that also act as a leave-in beard conditioner; they moisturize and tame beards while giving them a slight hold, making them look fuller and polished. This recipe utilizes beeswax to give the balm hold (as well as nourishing vitamin A), and hydrating cocoa butter as well as shea butter for its anti-inflammatory properties. We add Jojoba Oil as a moisturizing carrier oil, Lavender Oil for its calming properties, Tea Tree Oil for its antiseptic properties, and Rosemary Oil for its herbaceous scent (plus, it’s a great follicle stimulator for hair growth, too!).
What You’ll Need:
- 2 Tbsp beeswax, coarsely chopped
- 2 Tbsp shea butter
- 1 Tbsp cocoa butter
- 3 tsp Paradise Springs Jojoba Oil
- 8 drops Paradise Springs Lavender Oil
- 5 drops Paradise Springs Tea Tree Oil
- 3 drops Paradise Springs Rosemary Oil
To Make: Place the beeswax, shea butter, cocoa butter and Jojoba carrier oil into a double boiler setup (we like to put a large glass bowl over a slightly smaller pot of boiling water). Melt ingredients over low heat, avoiding any boiling (this will eliminate the therapeutic qualities of the ingredients). Once melted, remove from heat and quickly add essential oils. Pour the mixture into tins and allow to cool. This recipe will yield approximately 2.5 ounces of finished product.
To Use: For best results, wash beard and apply beard balm when dry. Collect a dime-sized amount of balm and rub between palms. Run fingers through facial hair, starting from the neck and working up, making sure to rub balm into skin where beard grows. Style as desired.
Note: The texture of the balm should be a light paste and not too stiff. If a softer consistency is desired, try using less beeswax.
