Benefits of L-Theanine
L-Theanine is a naturally occurring amino acid found in the tea plant Camellia sinensis. It helps promote relaxation and calm along with enhanced focus.* L-Theanine was discovered in tea leaves in 1949 by Japanese scientists. While that is where it is most commonly found, this compound is also present in some mushrooms. Supplementation allows for higher dosage and therefore a more noticeable effect than that from direct tea intake where it is combined with caffeine. Each Nature's Lab capsule contains 200 mg of pure L-Theanine for excellent support.
L-Theanine for Relaxation and Calm*
At high doses (higher than the usual amounts of L-Theanine found in a cup of black tea, 20 mg), L-Theanine has the ability to relax the mind without causing drowsiness. Exciting preliminary studies also suggest it helps increase alpha wave activity in the brain. This is important because alpha waves are the electrical signals produced by the brain during a relaxed state and boosting these may help when trying to go to sleep.
This incredible amino acid not only affects mental calm, but it also promotes healthy brain function and alertness. One study was done that measured alpha activity, the brain waves that play an important role in attention. Thirty-five participants were given either 50 mg of L-theanine or placebo. Electroencephalogram (EEG) tests were done at baseline and then at specified times afterwards (45, 60, 75, 90, and 105 minutes). Researchers found that there was a greater increase in alpha activity in those who took L-theanine compared to placebo, demonstrating that the amino acid had an effect on the participants' general state of mental alertness and arousal.*
