DIY After Sun Care with Coconut Oil

DIY After Sun Care with Coconut Oil

Summer is finally here, and so is sunshine and warm weather. This week, we're sharing different ways to incorporate Coconut Oil into natural after sun recipes, including skin care, hair care, and hydrating bath melts. If extra time in the sun is leaving your skin dry or in need of some TLC, try these natural alternatives to pre-made products.

After Sun Lotion with Aloe and Coconut

For many of us, aloe vera is a traditional favorite for helping soothe sensitive skin after too much time in the sun. For a natural, homemade alternative to pre-made aloe products, try this hydrating, cooling recipe with three simple, moisturizing ingredients.

What You'll Need

To Make:

Melt the coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Add the aloe vera gel and Jojoba Oil and mix until incorporated. You can also transfer the mixture into a blender for more even consistency. Add the essential oils (if using) once the mixture has cooled slightly. The mixture will be somewhere between a gel paste and a lotion.

To Use:

Apply the mixture to clean skin the same as any other lotion. You can also use this moisturizer as a lip balm by applying a thin layer to lips or as a shaving cream by applying to legs directly before shaving to avoid razor burn. Store at room temperature or in the refrigerator for an extra cooling effect.

After Sun Facial Moisturizer

This recipe blends coconut oil with moisture-rich vitamin E to hydrate the face, which can be particularly sensitive to the sun, while the lemon oil adds astringent properties to tighten pores, cleanse the skin, and balance the coconut oil.

What You'll Need:

To Make:

Refrigerate the coconut oil until solid (this is necessary to achieve the correct texture for this recipe). Using a hand blender or whisk, whip the solid coconut oil until fluffy. Combine the lemon oil, water, and vitamin E oil in a small bowl, and gradually add to the coconut oil. Transfer to a glass jar.

To Use:

After cleansing, apply generously to face and neck (and other areas in need of extra hydration) until absorbed. Store in the refrigerator up to one week.

Coconut Oil Hair Mask

Coconut Oil is a perfect mask for brittle hair- even on its own! If your hair is extra dry after some extended time in the pool or sun, then try mixing coconut oil with these Paradise Springs Essential Oils for extra hydration and shine.

What You'll Need:

To Make:

Simply melt the coconut oil to room temperature. In a glass bowl, add the essential oils and mix to combine.

To Use:

Apply a few tablespoons to dry hair, combing from roots to ends, massaging scalp in the process. Wrap hair in a shower cap or towel and let the mixture sit for up to 1 hour. Rinse well, and shampoo and condition as usual. Store leftover mixture for up to one week at room temperature and shake well before use.

After Sun Bath Melts

If too much time in the pool is leaving you with dry, itchy skin, then hop into the bath instead with this simple, nourishing, coconut oil bath melt recipe. This recipe features relaxing Paradise Springs Organic Lavender Oil, making it perfect for unwinding after a long day outside.

What You'll Need:

To Make:

Place the coconut oil into a glass bowl. Melt for 1-2 minutes with low heat, either in the microwave or over a double boiler. Once melted, add the lavender essential oil and stir thoroughly. Slowly pour the mixture into the molds and allow to cool until solid.

To Use:

Once solid, pop one of the bath melts out of the mold and into your bath. Store extra molds in a glass jar at room temperature or cooler.
