DIY Jojoba & Lavender Hand Cream

DIY Jojoba & Lavender Hand Cream

For many of us, the first thing we think of in our self-care routines is the face, but what about our hands? We use them throughout the day, from snoozing the alarm to making lunch to applying beauty creams and everything between, but they are sometimes neglected in our self-care regimens. Furthermore, frequent hand-washing can strip hands of their natural oils, making them more susceptible to harsh elements and even UV rays, which can cause dry skin and premature aging. Hand cream is essential to protecting the hands, keeping them smooth, hydrated, soft and younger-looking. With this DIY hand cream, we combine relaxing Lavender Essential Oil and hydrating Jojoba Oil, beeswax and coconut oil to making a moisture-rich hand cream that's also relaxing to the mind and soothing to the senses.

Hydrating Jojoba

Jojoba Oil
is a carrier oil derived from nuts produced by the Jojoba shrub. Carrier oils are neutral oils that can be used as a base to dilute and "carry" concentrated essential oils, protecting skin so that it does not come into direct contact with concentrated extracts. Additionally, it acts as a humectant to seal skin with a protective barrier to lock in moisture. Jojoba Oil is also hypoallergenic and noncomedogenic, meaning its structure imitates the skin's natural oils to keep pores free from buildup.

Relaxing Lavender

When you hear the word lavender, you may quickly associate it with an idea of tranquility and calm. Lavender is one of those classic essential oils that has long been favored for its sweet floral scent and relaxing properties. Lavender is a flowering plant belonging to the mint family. It has been used for its fresh scent and antiseptic properties for over 2,500 years in traditional remedies. Lavender also has anti-inflammatory properties, making it a great essential oil for beauty regimens for its ability to treat blemishes and ease inflammation. Paradise Springs Organic Lavender Oil is certified USDA Organic and steam distilled from the flowers of the lavender plant.

What You'll Need

To Make

Using a double boiler method, melt the beeswax and coconut oil in a heat-safe bowl. To do this, fill a pan with a few inches of water and bring to a boil, then reduce to medium heat. Place the heat-safe bowl with coconut oil and beeswax pellets on top of the water until melted. Mix to combine, stirring gently. Remove the mixture from heat, then stir in the Jojoba Oil and the Organic Lavender Essential Oil. Quickly pour the mixture into a heat-safe jar, letting it harden as it cools.

Use & Storage

To use, apply generously to the hands as needed. We suggest starting with the backs of the hands, rubbing them together to incorporate the cream into the area thoroughly. Because this part of our skin dries faster than the palms and does not contain oil glands, it's important to give extra attention to this area. Store in a cool, dry place in an airtight jar.
